INTONATION - What does this mean? With the core word being “tone” we know that this refers to the vocal or musical sound with respect to manner of expression. So, why is this such an effective component in speech? Right now, most of us are communicating through various online means with or without a video on. What is identifying us more than ever? The tone of our voice, or the intonation of our speech. This is the rise and fall of our voice throughout our utterances. Without it, our message will get lost. We create the meaning of the words through how we say them. When you have charismatic intonation your listeners will attend, understand and remember your message. The brain responds to changes in vocal pitch which is crucial in conveying meaning. Here is a great study to show this connection.
